- RB2x2 OCL(On Chip Lens)
Overview
The RB2×2 OCL pixel structure optimally combines 1×1 OCL structure that support high resolution and a 2×2 OCL structure to enhance autofocusing(AF) performance on a single sensor. This structure enables a balance between high resolution and AF performance.
Technical Features
The RB2×2 OCL structure supports high resolution by applying a 1×1 OCL structure, where a lens is placed on every single G (green) pixel, which contributes to image definition. The 2×2 OCL structure, where four pixels share a single lens, is used on R (red) and B (blue) pixels for phase-difference detection. The combination enables a balance between high resolution and AF performance.
To achieve the RB2×2 OCL structure, where two types of OCL structures are integrated within a single image sensor, we utilize design technology that optimally balances the placement of lenses of different sizes and curvatures on the same plane, along with manufacturing technology that forms them with high geometric precision. We have also developed a new dedicated signal processing technology that is compatible with RB2×2 OCL. By efficiently combining the remosaic processing optimized for 1×1 OCL and 2×2 OCL, the system maintains high resolution while leveraging the AF performance advantages of the 2×2 OCL structure.
This advanced pixel structure is realized by integrating Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation’s image sensor technologies, including pixel design, manufacturing processes, and signal processing developed over many years.
