OLED Microdisplay

Characteristic high image quality for compatibility with EVFs for cameras, AR and VR, scopes, and various other applications

Overview

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation's (SSS) OLED Microdisplays combine rich OLED technology with backplane technology for image sensors to achieve high image quality yet high resolution with a high contrast ratio, wide color gamut, and fast response. The main application for OLED Microdisplays is EVFs (electronic viewfinders) for cameras. We also offer a substantial lineup with high luminance, it allows to expand application to AR and VR headsets and various applications.

Overview

Features

What are OLED Microdisplays?

OLED Microdisplays have the high image quality unique to OLEDs yet also achieve ultra-high resolution of about 4,000 ppi thanks to high-mobility monocrystalline silicon wafers as the backplane. This is why they are increasingly adopted for applications whose needs for ultra-compact, ultra-high-resolution products cannot be met with LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) OLEDs.

Comparison of OLED Microdisplays and LTPS-OLEDs

Combining SSS’s rich track record in OLED technology with original backplane technology

SSS’s OLED Microdisplays have unique value-added technologies in addition to the native features of OLEDs. This was achieved thanks to our expertly developed OLED technology based on our rich track record in development and mass production and our backplane technology accumulated in image sensor devices. This is what realized their chief characteristic: high resolution yet with a high contrast ratio, wide color gamut, and fast response. SSS’s OLED Microdisplay allows to realize products that can give realistic and highly immersive experience to users.
