Health Management Initiatives

In order for each and every one of our employees to perform to the best of their abilities and create innovation, it is essential for them to be healthy both physically and mentally. At Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, we promote health improvement initiatives toward further corporate growth in order to help our employees to maintain their health, to prevent illness and detect it early, to improve health literacy, and to build comfortable and pleasant working environments.

Health Management Framework

Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation’s health management framework is headed by the President and Representative Director, who serves as the Chief Health Officer, composed of Occupational physicians, occupational health staffs, and the Human Resources & General Affairs Division, and operated in coordination with the Sony Health Insurance Society.

Analysis and Utilization of Health Checkup Results

At Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, in order to grasp the state of health of employees at all of our sites and verify the effectiveness of our initiatives, we conduct comprehensive analysis, drawing on health checkup results (tests and interview answers), stress check results, and the state of overtime work. We also extract health issues by comparing the characteristics of each of our sites, and we reflect the analysis results in our strategy map.

Cancer Measures

We encourage our employees to undergo cancer screenings and thorough testing so that illness can be detected and treated early. We are working together with the Sony Health Insurance Society to provide referrals in the aim of increasing the cancer screening rate.
Of employees who undergo quintuple cancer screenings (for lung, stomach, colon, breast, and cervical cancer), those who are judged to be in need of re-testing or more thorough testing are referred to a medical institution, both by sealed letter and by email.
Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation holds cancer screening awareness seminars led by occupational physicians to support our employees, streams videos summarizing the importance of thorough testing, and undertakes other initiatives that have allowed us to achieve a higher screening rate than the national average.

Lifestyle-Related Disease Prevention Measures

○Health checkup follow-up system

In the aim of ensuring the health and safety of our employees by building comfortable working environments, we have classified and stratified health risks as in the figure below, and we conduct follow-up after health checkups. For those who require follow-up, we have an Occupational physicians check their health condition, and then we implement workplace considerations, provide referrals for examinations, and offer support to improve their lifestyle habits. For those who are at high risk of myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, or other serious cerebrovascular conditions, we classify them as extremely high risk and provide follow-up, including thorough testing by Occupational physicians and support from their workplace superiors from a safety perspective. Thanks to such follow-up efforts, the post-checkup thorough testing participation rate is rising.

○Specific Health Guidance

For those aged 40 or over who require specific health guidance, we offer customized support by occupational health nurses and registered dietitians through a lifestyle habit improvement app.
To improve the participation rate, we hold advance briefing sessions on specific health guidance and work to improve employee understanding.
We will continue to provide ongoing health guidance in the aim of increasing the participation rate and being able to re-classify these employees out of the specific health guidance category.

Mental Health Measures

For mental health measures, we have developed a variety of initiatives focused on primary through tertiary prevention.
For primary prevention, we strive to prevent mental health issues by providing self-care training programs both for new employees and for all employees.
For secondary prevention, we provide stratified mental health training for managers. In addition to core training and follow-up training for managers of section chief class and above, as of FY2023, we also provide mental health training for managers for subsection chief- and leader class employees, and we have set up an environment that enables early detection of issues and early consultation.
For tertiary prevention, we have occupational physicians conduct interviews for recovery and relapse prevention, and we work together with human resources personnel and the workplace to respond quickly, including taking employment measures.
In the field of occupational health, the priority is on tertiary prevention due to the urgent need to provide care for seriously ill employees. The figure below shows Sony Semiconductors Manufacturing Corporation’s strategy of proceeding to secondary and primary prevention measures as the next step after recovery and relapse prevention.

Second-Hand Smoking Measures

Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation has been engaged in anti-smoking and second-hand smoke prevention initiatives for over a decade, and we achieved a total smoking ban on the premises in 2023.
The smoking rate is on a downward trend thanks to initiatives such as those in the figure and our various other initiatives for second-hand smoke prevention and smoking cessation support.
Going forward, we will continue to promote the Manual for Smoking Cessation or Smoking Cessation aid, provide public health guidance, and propose an anti-smoking subsidy system through the Sony Health Insurance Society.

Initiatives Related to Health
Improvement

To maintain and improve the health of our employees, the Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation has planned and is implementing health initiatives like those below. Only some of our initiatives are introduced here, and each site also has a variety of health initiatives of its own.

○ All Sony Walking event named "ARUKING"

All Sony Walking is an annual walking event held by the Sony Health Insurance Society, and Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation is involved in its management in each area. Employees and their families get together to walk a course that allows them to enjoy the local nature of the area. There are checkpoints set up between the start and the goal, and events are arranged at each one. It’s a health promotion initiative that’s also fun. We publicize the event at each of our sites in the aim of attracting more employees and families to participate, and many employees take part every year.

○ Support female health

As one of our initiatives for female employees, we established an in-house health consultation contact for women in 2023. We have created a framework where employees can consult an occupational physicians specializing in gynecology about any concerns that they might not be able to ask the people in their lives. We also make it known that we offer cervical cancer screenings for female employees aged 20 to 34. We have broadcast videos of occupational physicians explaining cervical cancer screenings, covering how these screenings are performed and why they are important for early detection and response. We will continue to expand these efforts to more age groups in the future.

○ Fall prevention measures

From the perspective of preventing workplace accidents due to falls, we have occupational health staff and occupational physicians conduct motor function-based fall risk measurement and evaluation for all employees. We are aiming to increase awareness of the relationship between motor function and fall risk as well as to eliminate fall-related accidents. We conducted fall risk measurement for all employees in FY2022 and then conducted follow-up measurement for high-risk employees in FY2023. By utilizing these measurement results to provide fall prevention education and encourage exercise for employees who are judged to be high fall risk based on declining motor function, we have achieved an improvement in fall risk among 80% of subject employees.
