Business Continuity Management (BCM)

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Group has specified, analyzed and evaluated risks and has strengthened its business continuity planning (hereinafter abbreviated to "BCP") from the perspectives of enhancing risk management throughout the supply chain, in order to mitigate the risk of business interruption due to natural disasters such as earthquakes, as well as various other accidents and disasters, etc., in accordance with Sony Groups policies.

The Great East Japan Earthquake and severe flooding in Thailand in 2011, as well as the earthquakes in the Kumamoto region of Japan in 2016, had a major impact on the electronics industry. However, we utilized our experience in business continuity measures to respond as one team across the entire company including top management and were able to minimize the impact of the interruptions to production.

We shared the experience gained from the Kumamoto earthquake recovery activities with related and local companies through industry associations to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness and supply chains of whole Japanese industry.
In addition, specifications for early detection and prevention of spread fire in buildings and facilities are decided based on Sony Group’s guidelines, which are stricter than laws and regulations.

Semiconductor manufacturing sites confirm conformity with an annual self-check on disaster prevention and have a periodical field inspection by the head office.
Through those activities, we have established a PDCA cycle to identify issues and formulate improvement plans, thereby reducing risk.
Recent years the frequency of floods has been increasing due to the effect of climate change, so we have confirmed the risk assessment of flood again and take proactive measures for mitigating the damage and early recovery.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2019 and has had a significant global impact, we have put a crisis management system in place, ensure the safety of employees and others and prevent the spread of the virus with the highest priority and take actions to minimize the impact on our business.

SSS Group has a crisis management and business continuity system in place to review plans for the system in each business and to prepare for incidents and business interruptions that could have a significant impact on the group.
In addition, in order to enhance the effectiveness of those activities, our related companies and organizations collaborate and conduct practical drills to strengthen our management for business continuity and early recovery.

BCP/BCM have been positioned as important management initiatives at the SSS Group and we will continue to work on effective and practical measures across the company (e.g. Improvement in risk management in supply-chain) based on the responses to previous large-scale disasters that have been experienced.
