Business Continuity Management (BCM)
Sony Semiconductor Solutions Group has specified, analyzed and evaluated risks and has strengthened its business continuity planning (hereinafter abbreviated to "BCP") from the perspectives of enhancing risk management throughout the supply chain, in order to mitigate the risk of business interruption due to natural disasters such as earthquakes, as well as various other accidents and disasters, etc., in accordance with Sony Group policies.
The Great East Japan Earthquake and severe flooding in Thailand in 2011, as well as the earthquakes in the Kumamoto region of Japan in 2016, had a major impact on the electronics industry.
However, we utilized our experience in business continuity measures to respond as a single unit across the entire company including top management and were able to minimize the impact of the interruptions to production.
We shared the experience gained from the Kumamoto earthquake recovery activities with related and local companies through industry associations to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness and supply chains of whole Japanese industry.
In addition, specifications for early detection and prevention of spread fire in buildings and facilities are decided based on Sony Group’s guidelines, which are stricter than laws and regulations.
Semiconductor manufacturing sites confirm conformity with an annual self-check on disaster prevention and have a periodical field inspection by the head office.
Through those activities, we have established a PDCA cycle to identify issues and formulate improvement plans, thereby reducing risk.
Regarding climate change, we have assessed our sites located in flood risk area and will take proactive measures in advance for mitigating the damage and early recovery as needed in the future.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have put a crisis management system in place, ensured the safety of employees and others and prevented the spread of the virus with the highest priority and taken actions to minimize the impact on our business.
Sony Semiconductor Solutions Group has a crisis management and business continuity system in place to review plans for the system in each business and to prepare for incidents and business interruptions that could have a significant impact on the group.
In order to enhance the effectiveness of those activities, we implemented a drill of which scenario is based on natural disasters such as the Nankai Trough Earthquake estimation announced by the Cabinet Office of Japan with board members, thus we continuously strengthen our management for business continuity and early recovery.
We have defined BCP/BCM as one of the important management initiatives and we continue to work on effective and practical measures across the company. (e.g. Improvement in risk management in supply-chain)
