Overview

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation(SSS)’s GNSS Receiver LSI category products feature the industry’s lowest power-consumption with delivering high positioning precision. Compatible both with L1 and L5 bands, it supports navigation satellite systems from different countries, enabling precise positioning even in a poor line-of-sight conditions. Effective signal reception is also realized in an NLOS (non-line of sight) environment, without compromising performance. Having a compact footprint smaller than 10mm2 makes it ideal for tracking motion and movements, whether on a person, pets, assets and vehicles.

Applications

Wearable devices (fitness tracker)

Wearable products, being small and light-weight, demand the receiver to have continuous, high precision positioning and a long-lasting battery.

Sports watches, for example, need to be small, light, and long-lasting, as well as able to track various actions with precision. The GNSS devices benefit from advanced silicon design technology to deliver a GNSS solution with the smallest size and power consumption, that enables wearable device developers to meet these requirements.

A wide range of algorithms are also offered, covering diverse contexts in which positioning takes place, such as positioning for running accounting for the arm swings, positioning using the transmission wave best adapted for swimming, and multi-path compatible positioning for urban environments.

Automotive tracker

Used for tracking the movements of vehicles and drivers, these trackers need to be low-cost and easy for users to install, with high accurate positioning as well as quick boot and long battery performance, not to mention the ability to handle temporary GNSS signal losses.

The GNSS Receiver LSIs significantly reduce the developers’ burden by allowing them to use various SSS features easily and effectively. The GNSS device can be designed to handle most of signal processing tasks within itself, allowing to streamline the design of the software running on the host CPU.

SSS GNSS devices can incorporate the Dead Reckoning (DR) capability by having an IMU connected. This will make it possible to sustain accurate positioning for several minutes into a temporary loss of GNSS signal, for example, in a tunnel or underground car park.

Logistics management (asset tracker)

The diverse use cases for asset trackers demand GNSS devices to be equipped with a full range of action modes.

The GNSS Receiver LSI offer solutions optimized by expert support engineers around the world collaborating with asset tracker vendors. For example, smaller trackers can easily be realized through a combination of a compact package and low power consumption performance.
